Rick Denton's life is turned upside down when his mother calls and asks him to return home after his stepfather suffers from an aneurysm. When it becomes clear his mother needs him to run their little store, the Book Nook, for more than a few days, Rick's reluctant. After all he's a successful accountant and has had little contact with his mother or stepfather.
Running the Book Nook has Rich out of his element. But that's not all he's dealing with. He must deal with a homeless man that shows up at the Book Nook's doorsteps, along with being forced to deal with the pain of his biological father's desertion. As much as Rick would like to remain uninvolved, Andrea who works part-time at the BOOK NOOK, and her daughter Amy, have him doing the opposite.
